Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its source; officials are currently not aware of any harm in association with the incident," they stated.
City officials stated they were trying "to unravel the case" and have asked to the residents for details.
An important political figure stated the incident left him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
